The Cloning Process: Step-by-Step
Welcome to the next frontier in advanced cattle reproduction. At Trans Ova Genetics Advanced Technologies, our cloning process is designed to give you unparalleled control over your breeding program. Whether you’re preserving the legacy of a standout animal or advancing your herd’s genetics, we’re here to make the journey seamless and successful. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about how our cloning process works, from contracts to calf delivery.
1. Start with a Contract and Down Payment
- Before we begin, a cloning contract must be signed, and a down payment (50% of the contracted fee) must be submitted to our Sales and Marketing Manager or Advanced Technologies Assistant.
-
A signed contract and paid down payment is required before any embryos are implanted.
2. Define Your Goals
- Decide how many calves you’d like to produce.
- Select your desired calving dates for planning purposes.
3. Slotting Your Order
- Once your contract and down payment are received, your order will be scheduled.
- Typically, 8-10 embryos are implanted per calf requested (subject to breed and cell line specifics).
- You’ll receive an implant report confirming the details of your order.
4. Embryo Creation and Implantation
- Embryos are created and implanted according to your scheduled date.
Throughout Gestation
5. Monitoring Pregnancies
- Gestating pregnancies are checked every two months.
- Quarterly pregnancy reports are sent to keep you informed.
6. Housing and Calving
- Pregnant recipients are housed and calved at our Iowa facility.
- A calving report is provided within two weeks of the calf’s birth.
Post-Calving Care
7. Calf Housing Options
- Calves remain at our facility for at least 60 days (and up to 6 months if requested).
- Billing for calves begins at 30 days of age, with board fees starting at birth.
8. Payment and Pickup
- All fees must be cleared before calf pickup.
- Notify us at least 10 days in advance for health paperwork preparation.
9. Health and Insurance
- Calves undergo a health exam before leaving our facility.
- Insurance forms can be provided upon request during the health exam.
10. Visits and Biosecurity
- Visits to see calves require a one-week notice for scheduling and biosecurity compliance.
Important Policies
Termination of Contracts
- Contracts are terminated if up to 20 embryos per calf have been implanted without success.
- Additional terminations may occur if new information warrants it (e.g., recessive positive status).
- Down payments are retained to cover incurred production expenses.
Calf Loss and Credits
- If a calf dies during the housing period, a credit may be issued if warranted.
- No credits are issued for losses after the calf leaves our facility; insurance is recommended.
